A Social Distance Classic

When life presents a challenge, you just run with it. So rather than postpone or cancel our annual Distance Classic due to current circumstances, Starkey Ranch made this incredibly popular event a virtual one.

Extended from one day to three days, the race was held on April 3rd, 4th and 5th with health and safety top of mind. But fun came a very close second. Registered participants were encouraged to practice social distancing throughout and run only with family members or in groups of no more than two people. Along scenic paved trails, everyone ran at their own leisure from 7am to 7pm. Both the 5K and 10K routes started at Starkey Ranch District Park, chalked out to make it easy for runners to follow. Sidewalk signs signaled the start and finish lines.

With 149 participants, the event was a great success. Not even the prizes could be canceled. Runners were rewarded with Starkey Ranch swag bags at the pickup station, and several resident runners received theirs on the doorstep of their home. Many people expressed their gratitude for being able to participate, and Starkey Ranch is thrilled to have kept this exciting tradition going. We’d also like to give a special thanks to Disparti Law Group, the official race sponsor.

The race was such a success, we managed to raise nearly $4,000! All proceeds from this year’s Distance Classic will be donated to River Ridge Middle School and River Ridge High School. See you next year!

“We ran the course last night and thought it was the best 5K course we have ever run. Everyone who put this event together deserves a pat on the back. Virtually, of course!”
