Tampa, FL - In December 2013, Pasco County, the District School Board of Pasco County and Wheelock Communities approved a public-public-public-private partnership (P4) to design, construct, operate, and maintain Starkey Ranch District Park, the first combined park, school, library, and theatre complex in Florida.
This innovative approach was recently recognized at the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council's Future of the Region Awards, collecting second place honors in the Cultural/Sports/Recreation category.
'Pasco County is a community that is poised for tremendous growth," said Reed Berlinsky, lead developer for Starkey Ranch. "We intend for the district park to be a cornerstone of this growing community for many years."
In total, Pasco County netted five Future of the Region Awards, including the program's best-in-show award, the Charles A. McIntosh, Jr. Award of Distinction. Each award entry was reviewed on criteria that included regional quality of life benefit, benefit to environment, innovation, cost effectiveness, capacity for continuing impact and regional benefit.
Model homes in the first neighborhood village at Starkey Ranch are anticipated to open early in 2015, offering a wide range of housing prices and sizes from both home builders. The community will offer multiple ponds and parks as well as more than 22 miles of trails that connect to the adjacent Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park.
